Our Heart

The Bethany Story

In Scripture, Bethany was a small village just outside Jerusalem — the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. It was a place where Jesus felt loved, welcomed, and at home. He went there often.

That's the kind of place we want to be. A church where people feel loved. A church where Jesus is welcome. A place where Holy Spirit is allowed to move in freedom. A place where the presence of God is what we love most.

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Robert

Pastor Robert considers himself a North Carolina native — though born in Indiana, he grew up here surrounded by generations of family roots. He earned his BA in Philosophy and Religion from Pembroke State University (now UNC Pembroke) and his MA in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1990.

He's served in ministry since 1985 — nine years as a youth minister before stepping into his first pastorate in 1993, and has since led churches of various backgrounds, including church planting. Pastor Robert is a dynamic teacher who loves leading people into a real relationship with Jesus and a Spirit-filled life. He met his wife, Jackie, at Pembroke; they married in 1984 and have two children and two grandchildren. Robert accepted the call to Bethany in August 2016, and he and Jackie are honored to serve this church family.

Glorifying Jesus through the Holy Spirit & the Word of God

Bethany Church exists to glorify Jesus through wedding the Spirit and the Word; watching and learning how to be students of Jesus; walking it out in love to the ends of the earth.

We believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible is God's inspired Word. We believe Jesus is the only way to salvation. We believe the Church is called to make disciples of all nations.
