Uhhh… have you seen some people’s feet?
No, really? Especially in Jesus’ time, it was not a pretty sight. No Uber, no cars, not even bikes.
Just walkin’…
In your sandals… maybe even barefoot.
EVER-Y-WHERE! Dirt. Sand. Animal poo… yep. For reals.
Picture those little piggies now. EW!
Then Jesus is like, “Okay guys, I need you to please remove your sandals and just relax,” while holding a basin of water and a towel.
And that’s why Peter lost his mind when Jesus knelt down… it completely broke all social rules.
Umm… this was not just a polite gesture; it was a deeply unpleasant necessity reserved for the absolute lowest rung of the social hierarchy.
Did you catch that? It was a deeply unpleasant task that pretty much everyone needed done daily—maybe multiple times a day, depending on where they went. (Just sayin’.)
Jesus straight-up did not care about culture, status, or what people thought. He humbled himself and did what was necessary to serve others.
Uhh… do we do that?
At home?
At work?
At church?
I want to challenge you this week: “Wash someone’s feet.” Do what needs to be done, no matter what people might say.
Do it!
Serve your spouse at home, even if they’re usually the one cleaning up and doing the dishes.
Serve that person who straight-up gets on your last nerve.
Stop by your church and ask your pastor what you can help with today.
I promise, you will be the one who gets the most out of it. If you listen while you’re “scrubbing those feet,” God will be talking… and what He says will change your life.
Try it, then let me know in the comments what happened.
Scrub-a-dub, peeps!
